Create or combust

I once had a very wise teacher tell me, according to my birthday and chart, I have such a strong current of creativity that if I don’t dedicate the proper time and attention to it, I could spontaneously combust.

I still don’t know if this was a metaphor but I’m not really interested in finding out. And after a few weeks of dragging my feet a bit on the creative front, I think I’m understanding the inner combustion of stagnation frustration.

The fires of my creativity must be cared for and stoked consistently, lovingly, and with a warrior’s fierceness. Otherwise I’m completely out of sorts. Otherwise I’m off my destiny track.

I don’t think I’m special in this front. We all have an innate desire to fulfill our destiny or we will, in some way or another, burn up inside. A combustion of an unfulfilled soul’s great longing.

We know this from the words of Thomas Merton:

“If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”

As many great teachers have shared over the ages there is no middle ground, we are always - however slightly - either creating or destroying.

Are we creating something beautiful or are we wasting our time complaining, judging, destroying?
The destruction current is very seductive. It’s easy to get distracted by what others are or aren’t doing. But at the end of the day, and at the end of our days, that’s not going to matter much when we cross over to the other side.

We’re going to need to have something to show for ourselves.

What did we make with our time? How much did we give? How much did we help? How much beauty did we add to the planet earth?

Thus the essential nature of creation culture.

There is so much beauty waiting to be brought down. There is so much opportunity for creating more abundance, more love, new patterns of doing things in every facet and dimension. There is so much waiting to be created by you, by me, by us.

Here’s to activating the creation current over the combustion of destruction or inaction. Here’s to fulfilling our soul’s great longing. Here’s to a year of exalted destiny.
